Diplomacy PC
The best board game ever made is moving from its classic tabletop setting to the PC platform, courtesy of developer Paradox Interactive. Set in Europe in the early 20th century, Diplomacy is about the power struggles and political relationships between seven nations. Its abstracted and simple game play puts the focus on the need for shrewd negotiations and overall strategy. Paradox Interactive's computerized version of Diplomacy will be a careful adaptation that maintains the fundamental rules of the board game. The computer game will follow its philosophy of being easy to learn but hard to master. Key features: Challenging single player experience. Diplomacy will feature single player capabilities, which will remove the need for real-world opponents and will allow the player to encounter life-like computer opponents at any time. Graphical negotiation language, which will allow the player to communicate efficiently with humans and AI players alike. Multiplayer experience. By capturing the essence of the player interaction in the original board game, the computer version will offer both the classic versions of Diplomacy as well as more optimised versions that will decrease the amount of time required of players. True diplomacy includes the ability to communicate and agree on anything that makes sense in the game world. It allows the player to form agreements and to break them without artificial constructs. The player will decide who to trust, and building that trust will be part of the gameplay, rather than a formal element of the rules. 3-D graphics-enabled engine. Although this title will differ from the latest titles developed and published by the company, players will still recognise the Paradox touch and passion for game development. The title will be less of a historical simulation than Paradox traditionally creates; instead, most of the focus will lie on negotiation. Ab

Working Together: Building Workplace Bonds in a Diverse Society by Cynthia Estlund,
Working Together: Building Workplace Bonds in a Diverse Society by Cynthia Estlund,
The typical workplace is a hotbed of human relationships--of friendships, conflicts, feuds, alliances, partnerships, coexistence and cooperation. Here, problems are solved, progress is made, and rifts are mended because they need to be - because the work has to get done. And it has to get done among increasingly diverse groups of co-workers. At a time when communal ties in American society are increasingly frayed and segregation persists, the workplace is more than ever the site where Americans from different ethnic, religious, and racial backgrounds meet and forge serviceable and sometimes lasting bonds. What do these highly structured workplace relationships mean for a society still divided by gender and race? Structure and rules are, in fact, central to the answer. Workplace interactions are constrained by economic power and necessity, and often by legal regulation. They exist far from the civic ideal of free and equal citizens voluntarily associating for shared ends. Yet it is the very involuntariness of these interactions that helps to make the often-troubled project of racial integration comparatively successful at work. People can be forced to get along-not without friction, but often with surprising success. This highly original exploration of the paradoxical nature--and the paramount importance--of workplace bonds concludes with concrete suggestions for how law can further realize the democratic possibilities of working together. In linking workplace integration and connectedness beyond work, Estlund suggests a novel and promising strategy for addressing the most profound challenges facing American society.

Paradox Interactive - Paradox Interactive (formerly a division of Paradox Entertainment) is a Swedish company based in Stockholm that is known for producing historical strategy computer games. It is also a game publisher, publishing its own games as well as a few others.

Johan Anderson - Johan Andersson is the lead programmer for Paradox Interactive, the Swedish-based game company which created the award winning Europa Universalis 1 and 2, the critically acclaimed Victoria and Crusader Kings, and the recent Hearts of Iron 2. He has gained something of a cult status among the fans of Paradox Interactive's games, due partly to his skill in creating games and partly to the company's patching policy, which is very responsive to customer concerns.

Crusader Kings (game) - Crusader Kings is a grand strategy game made by Paradox Interactive about the period from 1066 until 1453. Unlike other past Paradox titles Hearts of Iron, Victoria and Europa Universalis II, Crusader Kings focuses on building a dynasty instead of a country, having similarities to role-playing games and even The Sims.

Hearts of Iron 2: Doomsday - On the 28th of November 2005, Paradox Interactive informed the public about the stand-alone expansion Hearts of Iron 2: Doomsday for the game Hearts of Iron 2, scheduled for April 4, 2006. The actual date is yet to be published.
